Shigiya (USA) Showcases Customer-Focused, Next-Generation Grinders at IMTS 2008

When manufacturing industry professionals from the United States and more than 120 countries around the world assemble at Chicago's McCormick Place for the IMTS exhibition, Shigiya (USA) will be on hand to demonstrate grinding solutions that deliver precise, reliable grinding.

Shigiya returns to IMTS, from September 8-13 in booth #B-6651, with two models from our exceptional lineup of CNC cylindrical and universal grinders.

GPH20.50 premieres

The GPH20.50 makes its North American trade show debut at IMTS 2008. This hybrid CNC cylindrical grinder brings a new level of flexibility to the processing of workpieces. It offers everything you could ask for: an automated production machine to accommodate medium-size and larger batches, a versatile grinder equipped with handles that permit ultra-precise manual grinding operations and the option of no programming for faster processing of small lots.

The GPH20.50 has a between-center capacity of 500 mm. It was developed to meet the diverse needs of customers who want a cylindrical grinder that performs beyond the standards of a general-purpose machine. It features an X-axis (wheel infeed) and a Z-axis (table traverse) independent handwheel.

Full CNC programming streamlines larger-lot grinding. On workpieces where the absolute highest tolerances are required, operators can shift from automatic to manual production. The automatic grinding function can do everything up to semi-finishing. Then the manual handles for wheelhead infeed and table feed enable skilled operators to manually perform the final precision grinding. The handles also eliminate the need for programming on small-lot grinding applications. Optional fully constrained hydrostatic boxways improve accuracy.

GSU40.60 enables complex applications in one chucking

At IMTS, Shigiya also will spotlight the GSU40.60 CNC universal grinder, a workhorse in Shigiya's expanding portfolio of high-precision grinders. Engineered for multiple processes, the GSU40.60 features a 400 mm swing capacity and 600 mm length between centers. It incorporates left and right external diameter grinding wheels, an internal diameter grinding wheel to the rear and a 0.0001-degree minimum increment rotation setting. This wheelhead assembly allows highly accurate O.D., I.D., shoulder, face and taper grinding in a single chucking. The Fanuc CNC platform with Shigiya's powerful conversational control affords quick, easy programming, setup and operation, even for inexperienced users.
